Beer Trip: Bohemian Brewery in Midvale, Utah

Located just south of Salt Lake City, Bohemian Brewery is well worth the short drive. Offering an atmosphere similar to a European pub (but with great beer!), this place is one to remember.

The Brewery

Bohemian is located a short 20-minute drive south of Salt Lake. Approaching from the road, it’s hard to miss with a big fermentation tank outside along with multiple flags lining the face of the building. From the parking lot, you can look into their outdoor patio along with their neat covered patio which opens up to the exterior with garage doors. It was a nice day; however, we felt like the indoor area was the place to be upon entering.

Neat antler chandeliers

Lots of great light from the large window!

This picture is intentionally cockeyed! Apparently this same photo is in many bars throughout Europe and it’s said that if it starts to look level, the person viewing it should be cut off!

The place felt like a European lodge with its log walls, massive stone fireplace in the center, and taxidermy throughout. Upon sitting down, you notice all of the European photos throughout the room - in fact, one of the staff members informed us that the place is set up as if it were a pub over in Europe! The stairway in the center of the room leads you to another seating area and a nice display of vintage European scooters, including a Harley Davidson one which is apparently one of only 3 in the world like it.

The Beer

Bohemian Brewery offers a brewing style that is unlike most places we’ve visited before. Bohemia is a part of the Czech Republic, which is fairly centralized in Europe - so this explains where they get their beer flair from! Many of their beers are inspired by surrounding regions and their respective traditional beers of the area. While many options are German like a Kolsch, Helles, and Hefeweizen, they also have Czech style lagers and pilsners. With 14 different options on tap, there were ample choices.

Being a fan of German beer, we looked forward to this place and it definitely didn’t disappoint with the quality. The 1841 Viennese Lager was the first sample - it had a great bready taste, yet was light enough where you could drink it all afternoon if you wanted to. The Cherny Bock was recommended by one of the regulars, and one could see why. This Schwarzbier was dark in color, yet was easy to drink and left behind a faint coffee flavor.

Food, Merch, & More

Delicious pub pretzel with a fun presentation!

In addition to beer, Bohemian Brewery also offers a full bar and a large food selection. Staying true to the Bohemian feel, the menu consisted of brats, stroganoff, fish and chips, and wood-fired pizzas. As a soft pretzel fan, we were pleased to find this option as well. One neat thing observed about the menu is that each food item is paired with their recommended beer of choice - we haven’t seen a place do that before!

If merchandise is your thing, then Bohemian has everything you could want. With plenty of shirts, glassware, and signage, you could take your pick. We were also extremely impressed with their sticker selection (which we collect!), as they had 4 different choices.

Before Chris’s work trip to Salt Lake, this place was intentionally scoped out - and we’re glad that it was. With great beer and a unique atmosphere, we hope to visit again one day.

Cheers!

Chris
