Beer Trip: Woodstock Inn Brewery in North Woodstock, New Hampshire
While the fall foliage is what brought us to New Hampshire, we quickly discovered that the area had a lot more to offer than just great scenery. Located at the end of the famous Kancamagus Highway are the towns of Lincoln and Woodstock, each offering neat little gift shops, coffee places, and restaurants. Among them was Woodstock Inn Brewery, which definitely stood out among its peers.
The Brewery
Woodstock Inn has a homey vibe, which isn’t surprising seeing that it’s also a legitimate inn where you can spend the night! The place has a great northeastern look from the outside with its red-painted wooden siding and a steep shingle roof. Inside they have lots of seating options, including a huge wrap-around bar in the middle. The entire interior feels like a lodge with the exposed wood and countless antlers mounted on the walls. You can easily spend an afternoon here between the restaurant, brewery, inn, gift shop, or on a guided tour (offered daily at noon).
The Beer
Woodstock Inn provides a good draft selection. With 6-8 flagships, some seasonals, and a few special releases - you are sure to find a beer you’ll enjoy. They do a good job of not overloading their menu and don’t excessively repeat similar styles.
The IPAs and pale ales here are full of big hops and bitterness - if that sounds like it’s up your alley, be sure to check out the Moody Brew IPA or any of the Mosaic Pale Ales. For those of us drawn to drinks with cool names, the award-winning Pig’s Ear Brown Ale would likely be your first choice. While it was a bit overpowering for us, the heavy roasted flavor definitely made this brown unique. Woodstock Inn additionally provided Morgan’s top beer of the entire northeastern trip with its Autumn Ale Brew - complete with a cinnamon and sugar rim.
Food & Merch
This location is truly a Jack of All Trades - it’s an inn, a brewery, and perhaps best-known as a restaurant. We stopped here over the lunch hour and the place appeared to be a hot spot for both locals and tourists alike. The menu showcased classic salads, burgers, and pizzas while additionally providing ribs, chicken pot pie, and meatloaf. Woodstock Inn also had a good-sized gift shop for a brewery of this size, offering shirts, ski jackets, glassware, and signs as well as an abundance of to-go beers which we made sure to purchase.
The entire northeast is something everyone should experience at some point. Not only would we recommend Woodstock Inn being on your list to visit, we’d even recommend it as a great potential lodging place along “The Kanc.”
Cheers!
