Beer Trip: Strap Tank Brewery in Springville, Utah
If motorcycles (and particularly Harley Davidsons!) are your thing, then Strap Tank Brewery has to be a destination for you. With a vintage motorcycle museum sharing its parking lot, we’re not sure which is the bigger draw - the museum or the brewery! While we can’t speak for the museum, the brewery offered a great experience.
The Brewery
Strap Tank is within a beautiful brick building and features a decent-sized outdoor seating area, but an even better interior. The whole place is actually designed to look like the original Harley Davidson factory, complete with a brick interior, concrete and brick floor, and even wood aged to look the part. This place is even complete with a vintage bike directly inside the front door!
Strap Tank is absolutely huge, but even the many tables nearly filled up entirely as the night progressed. There is a 15-person bar behind the hostess stand, but the vast majority of the building consists of table seating. Subtle Harley signage, vintage oil cans, and photos of bikes really complete the feel here.
The Beer
Strap Tank offers 14 different beers on tap of all varying styles. With an American Lager, wheat, brown, stout, and multiple pale ales, the choices were abundant. Even more impressive than the large selection of styles was the fact that all still complied with Utah law keeping the ABV lower than 5%. Keeping with the motorcycle theme, it was fun to read all of the beer names such as the Flathead, Sportster, and Kawa-Strata.
With so many offerings, the beer was still top notch. Their lagers and wheat have the rich bread-like flavor that we enjoy, but depending on the specific drink offered there were differing levels of crispness in the finish. Having stayed for several hours, we were able to sample a good portion of the menu… but a couple of beers really stood out.
The Hop Tank is a beer, which we had to look up - we’d never heard of this style before! It is an old style German brew that is essentially a smoked sour (and isn’t made very often). This one in particular had a fantastic smoky taste with a bit of pineapple to it. The Art City Rider was another top try of the day. Being a coffee blonde, it of course had great coffee taste; however, the coconut that went with it is what really made this beer pop!
Food, Merch, & More
In addition to beer, Strap Tank also has a full bar service and a robust food menu. There are tons of appetizers here, as well as salads, burgers, sandwiches, steaks, and salmon. The tacos we sampled were great, and it was easy to see why so many families were there enjoying a meal. Speaking of families (and especially kids!), Strap Tank also makes their own craft soda and they go all-out in doing it! It’s not unusual to see a cream soda at a brewery, but they must have had a dozen flavors including strawberry and even pineapple.
The one (and only) “knock” that we had about this stop is that they didn’t have any merchandise at all - not even stickers. While this is a minor complaint, it was disappointing since the place was so cool.
Strap Tank is truly a place we won’t soon forget with its great beer and motorcycle theme - we’d highly recommend the short 45-minute drive south of Salt Lake for a visit of your own.
Cheers!
