Beer Trip: Snow Eagle Brewing & Grill in Idaho Falls, Idaho
Situated directly across the street from the beautiful Snake River sits Snow Eagle Brewing & Grill. Offering a good selection of craft beer and a wide variety of food, it’s the perfect place to spend your time while in Idaho Falls. As a frequent work destination for Chris, he’s made countless visits here and none have disappointed.
The Brewery
Snow Eagle is housed in a really neat brick building across from the river park. While they do have 3 or 4 tables in front, inside is the place to be. Walking through the door you are either drawn to the “seasonal” Christmas tree, or to all the sports flags draped from the ceiling (I was able to find the Chiefs one!).
The brewing all takes place at the back of the building, with the whole process being visible from the seating area. Depending on the feel you’re looking for, you can either sit at the bar (which has multiple TVs for a sports bar feel) or you can be seated at a table for more of a restaurant vibe.
In addition to the public seating, Snow Eagle also has private seating for roughly 30 people directly above the front door that overlooks the entire facility - it seems like a neat place for an event!
The Beer
Snow Eagle has 8 different beer options to choose from, each comprised of a different style. Five of their options are menu regulars including an IPA, brown, Kolsch, Japanese lager, and their award-winning cream ale. The other 3 taps continually change, keeping you on your toes to see what is available next time. If you are the type of person who can’t decide on a beer, then Snow Eagle has you covered - you can actually order a flight and get one of every choice on the menu!
One thing you notice at Snow Eagle is that many of their offerings are under 5% ABV, which is actually quite unusual for a craft brewery. Sometimes when beer gets low on ABV, the flavor seems to lack and have a watery taste; however, this isn’t the case here at all.
Ty’s Cream Ale is the perfect example of this, with a smooth balance of hops and malts that leaves you with a mouthcoating finish. While Ty’s might have the accolades, another options that should be on your order is the Samurai Japanese Lager. The taste of this one isn’t anything unique for a rice lager, but what sets it apart is how they make it as light as they do. It is extremely easy to drink and leaves a clean taste in your mouth that makes you want another one!
Food, Merch, & More
While the beer is what typically brings Chris to Snow Eagle, the food is what brings most here. They quite literally have the most diverse food offerings of any brewery we’ve visited. While they do have traditional items like salads, sandwiches, burgers, and steaks, what really sets them apart is that they also have an entire Japanese menu consisting of stir fry and sushi. Chris chickened out and got a burger, but was later told that their sushi is some of the best in town (they have a former sushi chef on staff!) and actually pairs quite nicely with the beer - this will certainly be on the list to try if we make it back.
If merchandise is your thing at breweries, this is one thing Snow Eagle falls short on - they did not have any offerings other than to-go growlers.
Snow Eagle Brewing provides a genuine atmosphere that differs from most breweries we visit. This atmosphere, combined with great food and solid beer, should make it a must-visit destination in the eastern Idaho region.
Cheers!
