Beer Trip: Asher Brewing Co. in Boulder, Colorado
With so many brewery options in Boulder, it was hard for us to choose where to go knowing we only had one afternoon in town. After a quick Google search as we were leaving Avery Brewing, Asher Brewing came up just down the street! With good reviews and a short drive away, it was just the place to wet our whistle after a day of hiking.
The Brewery
Asher is situated in an industrial area of Boulder and sits within a shared building about halfway down its parking lot. You certainly won’t miss it, though - especially when they have live music set up out front! The outdoor patio has roughly 10 tables all under some nice shaded trees, which was very convenient for us on a warm day.
Indoors you will find several rooms that make up the brewery. The main one hosts a stainless steel bar and a half dozen tables, while the room behind the bar felt like another place entirely and featured pool tables and darts. With seemingly everyone in Colorado owning a dog, it was cool to see that Asher actually allowed dogs both indoors and out (and even had a dog there owned by the beertender)!
The Beer
Asher Brewing had roughly a dozen beers on tap when we visited. Definitely the most unique thing about their drinks is that everything is made utilizing organic ingredients. This was the first time we have ever experienced a brewery like that and we were told that they were the first in Colorado to have that distinction. Their selection was wide-ranging and included a couple of red ales, a pale ale, a Kolsch, a blonde, and multiple IPAs.
Their beer flavor didn’t quite click with us out of what we had time to try. With that said, having brewed our own beer at home a few times, we could see how utilizing all natural ingredients can drastically change your flavoring vs. mass-produced, concentrated malts and additives. The Cherry Blonde was the option we were immediately drawn to with both of us being fans of fruit beer. This one was very dank, but had a clean, yet faint, cherry aftertaste. The best beer of the day was the Space Boots. Being an imperial red ale it was very boozy, but had a great, roasty aftertaste which was quite different for that style.
Food, Merch, & More
While Asher Brewing doesn’t serve food themselves, they continually partner with food trucks and are set up nicely for one right out front. Staying in line with their organic beer, all of their merchandise incorporates the color green. It took us a minute to actually figure out as to why! They had a smaller selection of items that included shirts, glasses, beanies, and some cool dog items as well.
While one could spend days doing nothing but brewery hopping in Boulder, if you find yourself on the northern part of Boulder you should stop in and give Asher a try.
Cheers!
