Beer Trip: Samuel Adams Brewery | Boston, Massachusetts
Samuel Adams Brewery was a bucket list item of ours for a while, so it was a must-see during our Boston travels in the fall of 2021.
The Brewery
This is the brewery we were most looking forward to in Boston and the atmosphere lived up to the hype! Walking up to the tasting room you see building after building logoed with Samuel Adams, along with the associated building number - it’s more of a “campus” than just a brewery! It was neat to see how they have grown and adapted into the space around them. The tasting room itself consists of a large outdoor area, as well as a big indoor space with a very large bar. It was fairly busy, but we still had no issues getting seated and quickly had drinks in hand.
The Beer
Expecting to experience many unique offerings only available at the brewery itself, we were a little disappointed in the options that they had. Of course, the beer was good - but nearly everything on tap could also be found at your local liquor store. With that said, they did have a few neat offerings such as the 26.2 which they make for the Boston Marathon (which took place only a couple of weeks before our arrival).
While the options weren’t exceptional, it’s tough to beat the taste of a classic Samuel Adams Boston Lager. Although they no longer make it at this facility due to the sheer volume they have to produce, there was something special about drinking it where it originated. None of the other offerings knocked our socks off, but all of Samuel Adams produces quality beer that any beer lover will appreciate.
Food & Merch
The outdoor space could have easily accommodated food trucks, but there was no food offering while we were there. As you might imagine, they have a massive gift shop offering any kind of Samuel Adams memorabilia you could imagine. Naturally, we stocked our suitcases for the trip home!
Tour
We signed up to take their brewery tour, which was definitely the neatest part of the whole experience. The tour leads you into their development room, where all Samuel Adams beer originates. During the tour you’re provided with a Boston Lager before venturing into a side tasting area where they give you a take home glass. While you don’t get to see much of the overall facility, this was one of the better brewery tours we had been on and their knowledgeable guides made it well worth taking - especially for only $10/person!
