Beer Trip: Natural State Beer Company in Rogers, Arkansas

Visiting northwest Arkansas fairly often for work, it’s been quite obvious that the area has experienced some major growth. With it has brought a plethora of new craft breweries to the region, among them being Natural State Beer Company. Just like its namesake, this place plays homage to the natural state in both its atmosphere and ambiance.

The Brewery

Visiting on a weekday evening, Natural State Beer was fairly quiet; however, the atmosphere was still quite impressive. The place is a bit difficult to find via Google Maps, as the location is surrounded by other business buildings. Nonetheless, the building face is unmistakable when you arrive. They have an awesome outdoor patio area that wraps around the entire building overlooking a large pond. Complete with plenty of large picnic tables, this space is surely busy on a nice weekend.

The indoor space carries with it the outdoor feel with a beautiful, wood-planked ceiling, vibrant wooden tables, and a live-edge bar for everyone to order from. Everything combined with dark green paint makes you feel like you’re in the woods.

The Beer

Natural State Beer Company is a German brewery through and through with every option they offer being one of traditional German style. They offer 12 drafts ranging from a pilsner, dunkel, hefeweizen, and several styles of lager. According to their brewtender, 9 of their options are brewery regulars and the other 3 taps are continually rotated.

Brewed in German style, most of their beer has a distinct bready taste to it. Fortunate for Chris, this so happens to be one of our favorite flavors. The Maibock was highly recommended by the regulars present. This Great American Beer Festival Gold Medal beer was very clean and left you with a mouthcoating, doughy taste. While the Maibock was good, the top beer of the evening definitely went to the Pilsner. This one was perhaps the best pilsner we’ve ever had, with a great clean and bready flavor, yet subtle enough where you could easily drink it all afternoon.

Food, Merch, & More

Natural State Beer Company doesn’t make their own food; however, they do have a good selection of snacks including pretzels, chips, and beef jerky. Their merchandise selection is very well-designed with some neat shirts, tank tops, hats, glassware, and even blankets - all of which tips their hat to the outdoor theme.

Talking to the host for the evening, they have weekly specials depending on the day and the theme. One of the cooler themes was that on Saturdays they have “bring your own stein” days where people can bring their own beer stein (true to the German form!) and receive a certain discount for the day on all pours.

Although this visit to Natural State Beer Company was short, it was certainly enjoyable and is definitely a place to return to on another trip to northwest Arkansas.

Cheers!

Chris
