Beer Trip: Lost Evenings Brewing Company in Lenexa, Kansas

Exterior with a small outdoor space

Lost Evenings happens to be one of the closer breweries to our house, so it’s a great place to take friends or family when they’re in Kansas City for a visit. Our most recent trip here served that purpose well, as we had Carl and Cheryl (Chris’s parents) join us. Even though this stop has only been around since 2020, they’ve quickly made a name for themselves on the JoCo Ale Trail.

Enormous indoor space with fun furniture and chandelier lighting

The Brewery

Lost Evenings is located in the corner spot of an L-shaped strip mall. This definitely limits their outdoor patio space to only a few tables; however, the indoor space is one of the largest in the area. A vast majority of the tables and chairs are different from each other, almost like they went to a thrift store and purchased a hodgepodge of various pieces - it’s actually one of the neater things about the place!

Another fun feature is that nearly every table has some type of game at it to keep you entertained. Whether it be checkers or Jenga, having them on top of the tables themselves (vs. in a stack over to the side of the room, like other places) actually encourages you to try them out.

Everyone orders from the bar here, where beer choices are hand painted onto interchangeable wooden signs. Once that particular beer has “retired” they move the sign to the opposite side of the brewery where you can look at all of the previous options they’ve had - it’s pretty neat to read them all and see the various art.

A neat feature of Lost Evenings is that they do not accept tips and instead pay all of their brewtenders a fair wage - any tips received are donated to a local charity.

The Beer

Wide range of colors at LEBC

Offering anywhere from 8 to 10 various beers, Lost Evenings always has something new to try - they keep a few of their flagships on tap year round and rotate out the rest. For people like us who are always seeking out a different option, we’re a big fan of this. With a continual rotation of taps, you never know what the beer style will be - but more than likely you will find at least one stout and one IPA, as those seem to be some of their go-to’s.

The delicious Muddy Paws!

Even with the beer constantly changing, the commitment to quality remains the same - we can’t recall any beer here being bad. The latest trip included the Hazemaker, which was very light for a hazy IPA and had a soapy-like flavor to it. While we’re not normally a fan of this taste, this one was actually quite enjoyable. Perhaps their most popular option is their milk stout, Muddy Paws. With its smooth, sweet, and slightly chocolatey flavor, we can see why they keep this one on the regular lineup.

We have noticed that the brewers here enjoy pushing the envelope from time to time with some rather unique choices. One example from our recent visit was the Resist. This one was brewed as an imperial stout; however, what made it different was that it was brewed with beets. We can’t say we are the biggest fan of beets to begin with, but we thought: “What the heck?” It ended up being just as advertised, with a strong earthy beet taste that was honestly pretty impressive.

Food, Merch, & More

Long list of upcoming events!

If beer isn’t your liking, Lost Evenings has several other options for you. Serving multiple wines and some specialty cocktails made with a mixture of their different beers, there are plenty of things to try. If you happen to bring the kids along, they also serve juice and soda.

While food isn’t offered here, they do have a decent selection of chips and popcorn. You can also enjoy a rotating food truck or a pizza from the Gambino’s nearby! Their merchandise section is rather limited, but there are t-shirts, glassware, and sunglasses.

While it’s never been packed when we have visited, plenty of people have told us that many of their specialty events bring in large crowds - they have signs up for events like trivia, live music, craft nights, beer yoga, and more - we might have to try something out one of these days!

If you are ever in need of a place to kill a few hours in the southern part of Kansas City, be sure to seek out Lost Evenings Brewing Company. Offering solid beer and a family friendly atmosphere, we enjoy including it in our regular brewery rotation.

Cheers!
