Beer Trip: KC Bier Co. in Kansas City, Missouri
Kansas City Bier Company (KC Bier) provides a truly unique experience with its authentic German feel, making it a top choice for both locals and tourists alike.
The Brewery
The atmosphere at KC Bier is top-notch for a brewery of its size. The building itself is tough to miss, with its large stature, olive green color, and countless cars of other beer lovers’ parked around it. The indoor area (or Bierhalle) is quite large, featuring extremely tall ceilings and a good-sized bar that immediately greets you when you walk through the door. German flags and signage make you feel like you’ve just stepped into Oktoberfest in Munich!
Although the indoor area is quite nice, the outdoor space (Biergarten) is definitely the place to be on a nice day in the Midwest. In addition to an extremely large area filled with picnic tables, there’s also a tent-covered section and a dog section with tables for you and your furry friend (which we took full advantage of by bringing our pup, Barley)!
KC Bier hosts events at their facility quite often and even had trivia when we arrived and live, German music playing towards the end of our time.
The Bier
KC Bier Co. sticks to its brewing style more than any brewery we’ve ever been to. If German style bier is your thing, then this place is a must. The majority of their choices are lagers (as opposed to ales at most other places); however, this definitely doesn’t limit the options offered. No two biers were actually the same style when we visited, with variations including a golden lager, a pilsner, a doppelbock, and even an Indian pale lager.
While their Dunkel and Hefeweizen are the “face” of KC Bier (and rightfully so!), there are many other tasty choices here as well. The Carolator is light, very smooth, and has a grainy, floral finish. The German style of bier features heavy malts, creating that bready flavor profile enjoyed by many, including ourselves. KC Bier Co.’s Schwarzbier (black lager) actually differs from this German stereotype, with a more roasty flavor - despite how dark it is in color, it’s still very easy to drink.
Food & Merch
Staying true to their German roots, KC Bier Co. has a good-sized food menu full of different sausages, brats, and pretzels. A kid-friendly facility, KC Bier has soda and juice options to suit.
In addition to food, their merchandise section is abundant. There are numerous t-shirt and hat choices, glassware options for every beer style, brewery signs, and even a baby onesie.
While you can certainly enjoy KC Bier Co. at most bars and restaurants around the Kansas City metro, going to the actual brewery will be a fun and worthwhile choice.
Cheers!
