Beer Trip: Jackass Hill Brewery in Littleton, Colorado

With a tagline like “for a real kick in the shorts,” we knew we’d need to stop in here.

While visiting for a wedding, we stumbled across Jackass Hill Brewery while searching for fun things to do near downtown Littleton, Colorado. We are certainly glad we stopped in!

The Brewery

Situated directly on the main drag of downtown, Jackass Hill draws you in with a huge, outdoor, dog-friendly patio complete with cornhole sets. Picnic tables with umbrellas are abundant and there are plenty of outdoor heaters if you find yourself catching a chill in the Colorado mountains. Indoors you are pulled to the massive, 20-person bar that runs nearly the length of the entire building. The brewery combines brick walls and exposed ceilings with wooden tables and backsplashes to give it both an industrial and outdoorsy feel.

The outdoor patio was hopping on a Thursday evening, complete with food truck!

The enormous bar featured wine and cocktails in addition to craft beer.

The Beer

The Roja Red Ale which was actually quite dark!

Jackass Hill has eight of their own beers on tap, as well as a half dozen more rotating guest taps. The majority of their own offerings are on the higher side of the ABV scale, including a strong Belgian Trippel. They offered a wide range of styles including a pilsner, stout, brown, and a few IPA choices. Based on their Untappd feed, it seems that they rotate their options pretty regularly.

Their beer was a hit-or-miss for us on our visit. The higher ABV usually scares us off (especially if we want multiple drinks), but with a name like Strong Ass English Strong Ale you have to give it a go, right? This one certainly lived up to its name with a strong profile to go with a sharp bitterness. The favorite tap of the night was their Roja Red Ale which is an American amber with the perfect malty taste, yet light enough that it doesn’t fill you up. Definitely recommend this one! Although we pride ourselves in trying the beers from the brewery itself, their expansive guest tap list makes it easy to find something to drink if you aren’t a fan of their high ABV offerings.

Food, Merch, & More

The insane collection of t-shirts to choose from!

Perhaps the first thing you notice on the inside here is their massive selection of t-shirts. It is literally the biggest selection we have ever seen at a brewery and takes up probably 30% of all of their wall space - it was reminiscent of a souvenir t-shirt shop in Florida over a Colorado brewery!

In addition to serving a few brewery snacks, they continually have food trucks which seemed to be fairly busy. Jackass Hill also offers a full bar in case beer isn’t your thing.

Sitting in the heart of downtown Littleton, Jackass Hill Brewery is the perfect place to start or finish your day while also enjoying the unique shops and restaurants in the area.

Cheers!
