Wild Mind Ales | Minneapolis, MN
Beer Trip | Wild Mind Ales in Minneapolis, Minnesota
The greater Minneapolis area is flush with breweries, both large and small. One name that kept being mentioned when we asked “Which ones are worth hitting?” was Wild Mind Ales - so this became an easy choice. With an up-tempo vibe combined with unique twists on beer, we’re glad we made the stop.
The Brewery
You definitely won’t miss Wild Mind Ales when approaching from the street. Located in an industrial area, they have a large outdoor patio, a permanent food truck, and massive artwork that literally wraps the building. When the weather is nice there are multiple, large garage doors that make the inside and outside flow together seamlessly.
The interior is painted entirely white with a wooden bar area and tables spread about as an accent; however, they really throw their splashes of color around near their taps - it’s a very slick style! Multiple people brought their dogs along here, as they’re allowed both inside and out.
The Beer
Wild Mind Ales is one of the few places we’ve been where they rotate out every single one of their beers when it runs out. Combine this practice with constantly having 20+ beers on tap, and you wouldn’t ever run out of new things to try here! On our visit, the menu featured 6 IPAs, 6 farmhouse-style beers, 3 sours, and a few others. While they don’t have flagship beers, we were informed that their farmhouse ales are their specialty style - many of these are aged in massive wooden barrels that you can’t miss on your way to the restrooms.
The beer quality here is what really makes Wild Mind Ales stand out, in our opinion. They push the envelope in so many different ways, whether it be their unique fruits utilized, differing hops, or strains of yeast. In fact, their brewer utilizes yeast strains that he personally harvested throughout Minnesota. Our favorites from the trip were the Live Sleeping, a faint sour rich in pineapple, and their Fruit Soup, another sour with lime and mango fermented with mixes of local yeasts.
Food, Merch, & More
They were actively looking for someone to manage their permanent food truck during our visit - so unfortunately it wasn’t open - but they do normally partner with other food trucks on weekends, too. Perhaps the greatest additional offering that they have is that they share a space with a coffee shop called Wild Grind Coffee. The coffee shop is open until 3 and the brewery opens at 4, but on Saturdays, you can enjoy an overlap in hours of operation and have some of each! In addition to beer, they have a few N/A options that are infused with THC. It’s the first time we’ve come across a product like this at a brewery before.
The merchandise section at Wild Mind is in a room by itself next to the bar. It features all kinds of glassware, along with shirts, flannels, hats, wall tackers, and even a tap handle (unfortunately we couldn’t quite justify its price). For always rotating their beers, we were pleasantly surprised that they canned almost all of them on the menu into 4-packs - so we made sure to grab a couple of those for the trip home.
Wild Mind Ales is truly a hot spot in the Minneapolis beer scene and we could easily see why. With a fun atmosphere and great beer, it would be one of our recommended breweries as well!
Cheers!
