Beer Trip: Monolithic Brewing in Omaha, Nebraska
With only 24 hours in Omaha for a work trip, it was tough to pin down what brewery to try. After some research on great spots in the area, we found ourselves at Monolithic Brewing and are so glad we did. This small-batch-focused brewery offered an awesome atmosphere, delicious brews, and tasty food that all hit the spot after a long day of work and travel.
The Brewery
Monolithic is nestled in a strip mall in northwest Omaha that also features an animal hospital and a fitness gym. Though inconspicuous from the outside, this place is quite the stop once you step through the doors. Not only is the interior of Monolithic incredibly spacious, but they also have a coveted outdoor patio overlooking a small pond (which we were unfortunately not lucky enough to get a seat at this time)! The bar serves as the focal point here, with room for probably 30 patrons.
Surrounding the bar are a variety of high and low-top tables, with capacity for groups of all sizes. Fun muraled walls and plants can be found throughout and the lighting is pristine coming from large glass garage doors. There’s even a fun photo backdrop in the back corner that would be the perfect background for a friend’s day out. Monolithic is a small-batch brewery and doesn’t distribute whatsoever - though we find it sad to know we can’t get their brews in Kansas, it made us appreciate it all the more while we were there!
The Beer
There were 14 beers on tap during our visit, with a diverse list including fruit beers, IPAs, a stout, an English Brown, a Hefeweizen, a Mexican-style lager, and an espresso Kolsch. One thing we found unique is that Monolithic seemed to specialize in shandys, with 3 on the menu during our stop. With so many intriguing options to choose from, a flight was the only correct answer. The bartender let us know that four beers are flagships, but the remaining ten rotate on a regular basis.
Though all the beers we tried were unique and tasty, a few were extra noteworthy. The Espresso Self is a coffee Kolsch and it had been a long time since we’ve seen a brew like this on a menu! Delicious coffee flavor paired with a light and refreshing Kolsch made it extra memorable. Our absolute favorite was the Peaches And Cream Shandy, a smooth and creamy radler that was utterly delicious. The consistency of this brew almost made it seem like there was lactose in it, but turns out it was made using peach puree.
Lastly, the Feisty Walrus is an honorable mention - this English Brown Ale was fairly dark and malty. We tried this one after the bartender told us a fun fact: Nebraskans drink more English Brown Ales per capita than any other state in the USA (not sure how to fact-check this, but we’ll take her word for it)! The beer here was delicious and, had we not had to work the next morning, we could have easily sampled a few more.
Food, Merch, & More
Though it wasn’t obvious when searching online, Monolithic has a robust food menu! Whether you’re looking for a quick appetizer or a sandwich, burger, or wrap, they have you covered. We opted for the Chicken Bacon Ranch Quesadilla which was delicious, fresh, and served quickly. If you’re not up for a beer, Monolithic also has wine, cocktails, N/A beer, and kombucha available.
When it comes to merchandise, Monolithic has shirts, glassware, stocking caps, and, our favorite - stickers!
Monolithic was very busy for a Wednesday evening and appears to be that way most days as they host a variety of events, food trucks, and more. Thanks for helping make a work trip even more fun!
Cheers!
