Great Divide Brewing Co. | Denver, CO

Beer Trip | Great Divide Brewing Co. in Denver, Colorado

The bar area was quite full for a Thursday in the middle of the afternoon!

Considered one of the more well-known breweries in the Denver area, we were happy to visit Great Divide Brewing on what was a perfect, sunny afternoon.

The Brewery

The patio area offered seats both in the sun and in the shade.

Situated just outside of downtown Denver, the surrounding location (also known as the Ballpark District) is not quite as desirable. Although we felt safe as a pair, this may be an area where you proceed with caution solo. With that said, the Great Divide facility is state-of-the-art. The building itself was a big, brick facility with the huge fermentation tanks located off to the side - these being fully visible from the street make the brewery tough to miss.

The seating options consisted of roughly 10 outdoor tables on a dog-friendly patio, another 10 or so tables indoors, and a large bar area that greets you just as you walk through the door. While not large, the place still had a really fun vibe and was filled with regulars popping in and out for a quick drink.

The Beer

Many awards won by Great Divide

Being a brewery with a large distribution radius (and award-winning beer!), we were already fairly familiar with many of their core options like the Yeti, Colette Farmhouse, and the Hazy IPA. While they did have these flagships on tap, we were also pleased with their brewery exclusive selection.

Offering roughly 15 beers on tap, about half of them were only served locally. A good chunk of these drafts were varying styles of IPA, but they also had stouts, sours, and fruit beers.

Brews rich in color including the Strawberry Rhubarb and Wild Raspberry

The brewers at Great Divide definitely know what they are doing when it comes to flavor - everything we tried was well-executed. The Strawberry Rhubarb is a must have - with its perfect blend of fruit and sour taste, you could drink this one all day. Based on their hazy IPA selection, these brewers like to tinker this style to perfection. The classic Hazy IPA is one of the better ones available at most liquor stores and the Great Yard Hazy IPA sampled onsite was equally impressive, leaving you with a mouthcoating citrus taste.

Food, Merch, & More

A few of the t-shirt offerings onsite

If beer isn’t your thing, then you can sample from their large selection of seltzers that they brew. Great Divide also continually partners with food trucks to provide a little snack or an entire meal. While we were onsite the food truck was incredibly friendly, even offering a dog treat to Barley.

Their merchandise selection isn’t robust onsite, but they do have some neat shirts, snow hats, glassware, and cool Yeti socks. If you can’t find something that suits you, you can always check out their online shop. They, of course, offer their liquid merchandise in the form of to-go beer.

Denver has countless breweries to choose from, but if you find yourself near downtown and are seeking fantastic beer, be sure to hop into Great Divide. Although we chose to go to the original/main location, there are actually 4 options throughout the Denver metro.

Cheers!
