Beer Trip: Brewheim in Anaheim, California
What do you do when you’ve walked 20,000 steps in a day at Disneyland? You venture out to a brewery to wind down - and with Brewheim only being 10 minutes from the theme park, it was the perfect candidate.
The Brewery
With Chris being an amateur woodworker himself, the bar top at Brewheim was beautifully done and quick to impress - made of walnut, it had seating for 10+ and a unique extension that could easily accommodate 6 more. We sat at the bar and quickly made friends with the bartender, as well as another traveler. The bar is definitely the focal point of the room, with taps evenly centered. The indoor area is very spacious with large glass windows looking out into an outdoor area, which is secluded by a tall, wooden fence and has nice fire pits throughout. Your beloved pooch is allowed both inside and outside here! Parking here is also a huge plus, as there’s a decent sized lot right out front.
The Beer
The LA area seems to have an unspoken rule when it comes to breweries, because all of them had at least 15 beers on tap - Brewheim was no exception and had a vast selection. During our visit there were 6 different IPAs featured, but every other beer was a different style altogether: a rice beer, a blonde, stouts, and everything in-between. For a west coast brewery they also offered an abnormal number of barrel-aged brews.
The taste of their beers seemed to be hit or miss for our liking as we aren’t huge IPA fans and most barrel-aged drinks aren’t our style. With that said, we could really appreciate that their beers tasted exactly how they were described on the menu. We both tried the PB&J Golden and it ended up being one of Morgan’s all-time-favorites - it had great peanut butter flavor, but was a golden ale instead of a typical stout like most PB beers. Definitely worth sampling if you’re a peanut butter lover. Many of their IPAs were combined with a fruit, including the Tango Fuzz. This one was heavy on the tangerines, easy drinking, and had a decent amount of hops. With so many options to choose from, you’ll easily find something that falls within your realm of preferred tastes.
Food & Other Offerings
Perhaps the most unique offering at Brewheim is that they also created a non-alcoholic beer line that is hosted under a completely different brand name, Bravus. We didn’t try it ourselves, but the flavor options looked plentiful and we found this to be a great alternative and something we hadn’t ever seen before.
Since we visited in late evening, their food truck was already gone for the day - but they do typically team with one. Their merchandise selection appears to be limited at first glance, but is actually spaced out in multiple locations throughout the venue offering t-shirts, hats, and glassware.
With this location only a few minutes from Disneyland, this is an easy brewery to hit up after a long day at the parks - and it’s definitely worth checking out.
Cheers!
