Beer Trip: Breckenridge Brewery in Littleton, Colorado
Having assumed that Breckenridge Brewery was located in Breckenridge, we were surprised to encounter it when searching for things to do in Littleton! While they do still have a pub in Breckenridge where they were founded, this Littleton location is the company’s hub and one can quickly see why.
The Brewery
There is no overlooking Breckenridge Brewery with its barn-red metal panels and weathered wood structure towering from the highway. Pulling into the parking lot you drive through a large archway that makes you feel as if you are arriving at a large mountain ranch. The campus spans over multiple large buildings, but despite its size it’s not tough to find the beer hall.
They have a large outdoor area complete with walk-up bar, fireplaces, and even a good-sized stage where events are hosted.
The indoor area feels more like a restaurant with an abundance of tables and servers tending to their guests. With high ceilings, natural light, and more wood throughout, the mountain ranch vibe continues from outside to inside.
Brewery Tour
The 90-minute tour was the first thing we signed up for when searching the area for breweries, and trust us - you will want to prioritize this! For only $8 for BOTH of us, we got our money’s worth just in beer alone.
The adventure starts in a private tasting room and you are provided a beer of your choice from one of their signature taps to keep you from going thirsty on the tour. From the tasting room, our guide Mark led us on a traditional beer-making instructional tour through the mash tanks, fermentation tanks, and then onto a brief Breckenridge Brewery history.
The last part of the journey takes you to the canning and bottling area where we were told they churn out 250 cans per minute! The tour then ends back at the tasting room where it began, but this time they have a full flight of their signature beers waiting for every person. Overall, this is one of the best tours we have ever been on.
The Beer
Until we arrived and our memory was refreshed, we had almost forgotten how many beers that Breckenridge makes and distributes. Of course they had their flagships like the Avalanche, Vanilla Porter, Mountain Beach, and the new Palisade Peach - but there was much more to offer here with over 20 beers on tap. The vast majority were smaller batch brewery exclusive choices varying from IPAs, sours, porters, and pilsners. One neat thing we discovered regarding their beer was that every single label incorporates the mountains outside of Breckenridge into the picture in some way - we think their marketing / branding teams need some kudos!
Every drink we tried here seemed to go down easily no matter what style it was. We certainly didn’t try them all, but they had a full lineup of 4 of their Juice Drop Hazy IPAs, with different brewing twists to each one - one with a pineapple orange, a session, and some imperial styles. A couple of our favorite samples included the Boochie Mama, a very tart sour, and the Oat Cream IPA, offering a delicious oat flavor with a juicy finish.
Food, Merch, & More
The beer hall here is a full restaurant offering burgers, sandwiches, salads, salmon, and more. We ate lunch here and certainly enjoyed our food (we’d definitely worked up an appetite from our tour!) - we tried the meatloaf, the tacos, and kicked off with their delicious deviled egg appetizer.
The merchandise section here provided a large selection of glassware, unique shirts and button ups, hats, and even fun swimwear. They obviously also offered their beer for sale as well, so we made sure to stock up.
